Rosemary I & II

Brett Lock

I. Genesis

Rosemary could blow your mind
with her laughter and a cigarette
by her touch I’m sanctified
and I followed her with no regret

And I would have told you differently
if I could only see
that Rosemary’s a part of me

Rosemary will rescue you
when you’re down and indifferent
her smile will remind you that
loving her’s your only sacrament

Still I would have told you differently
if I could only see
that Rosemary’s a part of me

You’ll remember all her promises
not one of them sincerely said
Recited like rote poetry
over broken bread

II. Revelations

Rosemary tell me it’s
not unusual to love you
like I do.
Rosemary tell me you’ll
never leave me and love
will see us through.

Rosemary, my fingers are bleeding
from the love songs
I play.
No matter how much I hurt myself
the pain
won’t go away.

Rosemary
I love you through all the demons
in me.
And you love me too,
but the devils in you
won’t let you see.

Please don’t leave me this way
Please don’t leave me this way
Please don’t leave me this way
Please don’t leave me this way
